The Wondrous Worlds of

he constant battle between the Word and the Void has raged for eons, one side never able to permanently tip the balance in its favor over the other. It is an invisible war waged in contemporary America and all over the world, the Knights of the Word battling the destructive efforts of the Void's demons.

When Nest Freemark, child of magic's legacy, is pulled into the struggle in her hometown of Hopewell, Illinois, she learns she may hold the key to the outcome of the entire war. As the forces of good and evil swarm around her, the fate of the future world and humankind's place in it hangs on the mysteries that surround Nest and her family history.

The three novels in the Word/Void trilogy are centered around Nest in three different moments of her life. It is a beautifully written and darkly elegant story about how the destruction of civilization won't come at the drop of a nuclear bomb but the seeds of which are already planted in how we poorly interact with people daily. Many of Terry's fans believe the Word/Void trilogy to be Terry's literary masterpiece, combining the magic and intrigue of the Shannara series with philosophies and ideas all readers can understand as they take place in our own world.

Start with Running with the Demon. You won't be disappointed!

  • A Fourth Book?
The website receives a lot of questions every month. One of them is: Will Terry write a fourth Word/Void book? The answer is: He has. Even after three years, many of Terry's fans do not know that the Genesis of Shannara series—which begins with Armageddon's Children—is the direct sequel to Angel Fire East. Could there be other stories, either set before Running with the Demon or dealing with different Knights of the Word in present time? Perhaps. As of right now Terry is remaining quiet about that notion. Time will tell.

  • Word/Void Movie
With Hollywood optioning rights to produce live action movies based on books in the Landover and Shannara series (read the Movies section for details), it is only natural to ask if the Word/Void series has been optioned. It has not. There has been interest from several parties in Hollywood but Terry wishes to wait and see how Hollywood deals with the Landover and Shannara movies. Until we find out whether or not Hollywood can produce great adaptations of Terry's work, the fans will have to wait and see.
