Terry Reviews: Divergent

Divergent (Divergent, #1)Divergent by Veronica Roth
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This month I am going with Divergent by Veronica Roth. This is an advanced YA fantasy tale similar to The Hunger Games. It features Beatrice (Tris) Prior in the role of Katniss Everdeen and surrounds her with a fascinating host of supporting characters. In this particular dystopian world, everyone belongs to one of 5 factions and even though all are born into one particular faction, they are allowed to choose among several when they turn 16. Tris goes from A to Z with her choice and begins a rigorous and very dangerous education that could result in death or being left factionless if she fails. Her efforts to succeed in her choice and her involvement with others in the same situation makes for a pretty edgy, compelling story. The writing is very good, and even though the writer was only 22 when she wrote the book, she clearly knew what she was doing. This is the first of a series, and if The Hunger Games is your thing, you will like this, as well. View all my reviews

  1. I would love additional information on getting this series. Signed, perhaps? I enjoy reading great fantasy. It is exceptionally exciting to hear that such wonderful work is being done at such a young age. Awesome work!

  2. As of yesterday, Saturday July 23, 2011, I placed an order for this book.
I am very excited and look forward to reading it. By the way. Will Veronica be anywhere near the Southern California area anytime soon? I would love to get this signed.
    Keep it up Veronica.

  3. I loved this book! Took me 3 days to finish it. Very similar to the hunger games. And hunger game series took me week and a half to finish. I can’t wait for the 2nd book in the series by veronica
