Complete MEASURE Tour Posted!

For the first time in two years, Terry is going to tour parts of the United States outside of the Pacific Northwest!

Once The Measure of the Magic is published on August 23rd, Terry will have a few signings in the Pacific Northwest and then travel to the 2011 DragonCon in Atlanta, GA. He will then swing up the Eastern seaboard toward New England, where he hasn’t been in over 14 years. As you can see below, he will visit WA, OR, GA, NC, MA, NH and VT.

I’m going to tell you all something and I’m hoping you will listen. I know, a tall order. Ha! If Terry comes within a two or three hour drive of you, go to the event. He’s flying over the country to visit his fans and it might be the closest he’ll come to you again. Don’t take that for granted. As Terry’s webmaster the last 12 years, I hear from people all of the time who say, “Terry signed near me a few years ago, I didn’t go, but I want to meet him. When is he coming back?” Some areas Terry will only visit once in his life, so definitely take advantage at all costs. If you haven’t noticed from this website, he’s one of the funniest and most down to Earth people you can meet. Definitely worth your time.

So get out there and see Terry! He’s coming to see you!

  1. Aw, I wish he was coming to Texas. I know it’s hot down here and all, but it would be so awesome! Anywhere in Texas would do, I would totally make the trip! 🙂

    • Terry’s been to Texas more than anywhere else except the Northwest and Utah. At least 8 times in the last 10 years. Maybe more. I’m sure he’ll get back there in a few years time.

      • I hope he comes to Texas as well someday. I just want to meet him once in my life. I was just in Seattle for family and can’t get back in time to see him on Aug. 30th… Going to try and have my Uncle get a book signed for me though. 🙂

    • I am not sure, but I think the picture at the top of the page might be from the last time he was in Fort Worth. I too want to add my vote for a return visit 🙂

  2. What, no visit to Texas????
Shame, shame….but we still love you and your work!!!!
Can’t wait till this new one comes out!!!!

  3. Bummer that there’s no florida dates. I got to meet Terry many years ago (almost 20 i think) and he signed my “Black Unicorn” paperback for me.

  4. Which branch of the Boston Public Library will Terry be attending? It looks like Boston has four.

    Boston Public Library (lunchtime event)
    Boston, MA

  5. How about a visit the Canadian east coast? If Terry came Newfoundland we could take him to see something really magical… Iceburgs and Whales!

  6. I met Terry on my 16th birthday (far too many years ago!) Please tell me he is going to visit the UK again?

  7. Will Terry ever be visiting Canada? As much as some people might not like to believe it we have a couple people living up here, and most of us would happily trudge out of our igloos to have Terry sign a copy of one of his books for us. In seal blood no less 😉

    • Terry visits Canada every four or five years or so. He generally visits Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, Quebec and Montreal, if memory serves. He was just up there three years ago, so you may have to wait a while. If you don’t live close to those cities, you are going to have to travel.

  8. I saw him when he came to Salt Lake City, Utah. It was an awesome experience, I never met an author before and may never see one again. Meeting Terry Brooks was one of the best experiences of my husband’s life. (Terry Brooks is his idol.) I hope we can see him again sometime soon.

  9. Is there any chance, however slight, that Terry will be in the Southern California area (specifically the Palm Springs area)? I will never be able to go to any of these places.

  10. Thats what I get for living in the center of the United States. Nobody thinks we are worth the time to visit.

  11. If I had my own car I’d certainly drive the few hours to the middle of MA to see him at a 7PM appearance. I do not, however, and there is NO way my parents would ever drive me to one that’s that far away. 🙁 I’ll find him somewhere in the future, though!

  12. I see the last date has been left off that list, the visit to Belfast, in Northern Ireland? Ahhh, one can but dream. 😉

  13. See you in Albany!!! Thank-You,Thank-You,Thank-you!!! Never thought I’d get this opportunity! Incredibly psyched!

  14. Has Mr Brooks ever been to Kansas? Any possibility of such a stop in the future? Not that getting a book signed or meeting the author has anything to do with how much I love his work, but it sure would be fun! Thanks for all the updates Shawn!

  15. I reckon I already know the answer to this, but do you think Terry will ever make it to Australia or more importantly get down here to Middle Earth ( New Zealand )?

Maybe on holiday one day 🙂

      • That is SOOOOO awesome of him! I’ve got about 12 or 13 books of his I’d like him to sign for me. I’ve been reading and collecting his works since I was 15 years old. I’m 30 now and I’ve have had the chance to meet him or have him sign anything until now, so this is a dream come true. I can’t wait to meet him in Sept. here in NC. Tell him thanks alot!!!

        • I met Terry about eight years ago and he signed every book he had written up to that time. I don’t remember how many there were but it took him about half an hour to sign all of them. Not only did he sign the books but we had a very good conversation about his books and anything else that came up. Like Shawn says, if you can go to a signing it is well worth the trip.

  16. I have been overseas the last two years and will be stationed next in Texas as of Nov. Looks like I will miss the whole tour again. Will he ever make it back to Texas?

  17. How about a stop in the VA/DC area after the South Hadley signing? It’s kinda on the way home! 🙂

  18. Whats the matter with Florida? We even got Sarah Palin here in Orlando but no Terry Brooks? I still have the remnants of the original 1976 hard cover edition of Sword of Shanarra waiting for Terry to sign. Someday ???? Neither of us is getting any younger.

  19. Shawn, has Terry ever been or do you think he ever will come to the New Mexico area? I would be incredibly honored to meet the man who has been keeping me enthralled with his stories since I was 15! Can’t wait to devour the next one!!

    • Yes, Terry has been to New Mexico several times over the last 12 years. When he visits Texas and Arizona, it also usually includes a stop at Page One, if memory serves.

      • Wicked! Page One is one of my regular stops! I will definitely be keeping tabs on his schedule now. Thanks for getting back to me Shawn.

  20. I kick myself everyday for not checking tour dates when he came to Idaho. Any chance he may come back here next year? I may have to make a trip to Washington I think!

  21. I’m a little shocked that there are no Chicago stops on the route. Considering we are a HUGE market. Terry could come to the Borders in…..oh wait they are closed. I’m sure they would love to have him at the Borders at…..wait darn it they just went out of business as well. Wow, no more bookstores near me.

Terry can just come to my house and I’ll host a reading, yeah that sounds great.

  22. ….and when Terry has finished his US tour…how about a little trip over to the UK ?? The weathers lovely (well…some of the time) !! It would be amazing to meet the author who has has been responsible for me being lost in the world of Shannara for the last 30 years :0) Any chance ..??

    • Sadly, no chance. He is swamped with work at the moment. He was in the UK three years ago and maybe he’ll get over there next year for the release of the next Shannara book. Keep your fingers crossed.

  23. Mr. Brook’s plan to be at Dragon-Con just spurred me to plan a trip for the first time. I’m making the trip a special Daddy/Daughter vacation with my oldest. I’m very excited to get to chance to meet Mr. Brooks. 24 years ago he introduced me to the world of fantasy through the Sword of Shannara as an awkward 6th grader. I have been riveted by his every word sense. I’ve read many more fantasy authors but Mr. Brooks holds a very special place in my heart. I just hope that the line is not terribly long. My daughter is 4 and getting her to wait a long time may keep me from making it through. We’ll try to get their early.

  24. I can’t believe it. I just moved back to the Midwest after six years living near Albany, NY, and now I see that a mere six weeks after I leave, Terry Brooks will be signing at Flights of Fantasy, which I used to frequent. Feel free to laugh; I certainly have to. I’ll muster up my patience, now, for a Midwest visit from him in the near future.

  25. Is there any chance Terry will come to Europe? I’d really like to meet him, but America is a bit too far.

  26. I am amazed he is coming to vermont!! Many of us encouraged him to visit New England on his B&N chat and I guess he paid attention!!! I promised him cider donuts if he ever came sooooo I guess i’ll have to pay up 🙂 I signed up today and am REALLY looking forward to seeing him…I’ve been reading his books since I was in Junior high!!!

  27. Shawn, could you recommend a day to see Terry at Dragon Con? I can only go one day, the Dcon website doesn’t indicate what Terry will be doing when and I’d like to make an informed choice when purchasing my ticket.

  28. It was a little known spot in the city of Covington, Wa. The library author series back in March of 1999. Maybe a group of 20 or so was gathered to here what Terry had to say. He impressed us on his life change to writing and I along with the others were thrown into the world of Shannara and Landover. The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara was his upcoming series, and now look where we are. Amazing! Moving from Seattle to Nashville has been my life change, but in both worlds I carry Terry Brooks with me. Thanks to him for all he has given us! Would like to get to Asheville, NC but if not, I can wait for a Nashville stop, on one of my return trips to Seattle. PS: I’m now awaiting his release of “Indomitable” next March.

  29. Shawn,
Do you know if Barnes & Noble have implemented any restrictions/requirements for Terry’s signings at their locations? Jim Butcher was recently at a few B&N locations in the Northeast and they were requiring copies of his latest book purchased at B&N with a receipt in order to get into the signing line. My girlfriend already purchased a copy of Terry’s new book for me through the Signed Page so I’d rather bring one of my older hardcovers to have signed!
    Thanks

  30. When will Terry be coming back to the midwest. Illinios is where he grew up and I would like to meet him.

  31. Terry please come back by Sterling, Il. some time It is a hometown that we share and I only live 40 min away. Or just come somewhere close to the quad cities.

  32. I’ll never forget the first book that got me hooked!! The Elf Qween started it all for me. Terry is the only writer who has ever been able to hold my attention from start to finish in a single book, not to mention a complete seris like the Shannara sets. Since Navy bootcamp in ’93, I have read every book in the Shannara seris and can’t wait for the next one and the next. Someday soon I hope to meet Terry if/when he comes to Arizonza.

  33. I wish he could come to Arizona. The Navajo Nation to be exact. Much love, Terry. You truly are the master of fantasy.

  34. Last time I saw Terry Brooks he was touring with Greg Keyes. Is he traveling with anyone else this time, too? Does anyone know?

  35. WOW Terry, Love your books!!! my daughter and I both love them, and discuss. She wants to make a Shannara movie one day….I want to play in one! FUN!

Please come to California! (specifically the SF Bay Area), i’m sure many fans here in the golden state would LOVE to see you! I’m going to suggest you to the Deanza College Flint Center in Cupertino California.

  36. I was introduced to Terry’s works while attending HS in Sterling Illinois, a area Terry is definitely familiar with. I have been a LONG time fan and would love the opportunity to meet him in person. Hopefully Texas will be back on his list in the near future.

  37. I want to just say thank you. Mr. Brooks books have been totally awesome. Many times they have had me crying but I love the stories and the places I go when I read them. Will not be attending any book sessions for the distant is to great to walk a foot. But he has become one of my favorite authors and just thanks again without his novels I would never be able to escape modern life. Terry Leggans

  38. He came to the Lansing, MI area when First King was published. My grandparents took me and a friend to see him. It was a great experience. He was down to Earth with a good sense of humor and wasnt going to leave the bookstore until the queue of fans was finished. Good man.

  39. Come on……i am 42 and have been with u since 1975….another visit to Texas would be great…….Lubbock, tx would be even better…..give us a chance please!! : )

  40. No Florida visit? Please come to Tampa next time Terry. I would love to meet my personal favorite author. My life would be complete lol.

  41. I just met Terry yesterday at the signing in Shelburne, VT.

I have been an avid reader of his works and passed along my original, very tattered, paperback copy of “Sword” to my teenaged son a few years ago. He is now a college junior and owns more of Terry’s books than I do. My son was not able to meet Terry as he is in college in another state. I attended the signing for both of us, and texted my son during the event so he was there in spirit at least.

I really enjoyed meeting him, he is a very genuine, down to earth kind of guy. The crowd was very small and he spent a lot of time chatting with us. I taped his opening talk, as well as his reading of one of his chapters to share with my son.

I had never been to a book signing before, I truly enjoyed the experience and felt very privileged to have had the opportunity to meet and chat with Terry.

  42. Really hope that Terry makes it out to the midwest. I’m not too picky but somewhere around Ohio, Michigan, Illinois or Indiana would be great I’m willing to drive. I was a little surprised to not see Chicago on the list actually. Though really, I’m just happy he is touring-There is hope!
