Terry Presents Award to Craig Thompson

On Saturday, February 11, Terry presented author and comic book artist Craig Thompson with a NW Booksellers Award for his graphic novel HABIBI, published in 2011. Six of these awards were given out to authors in a five state area, but Craig was the only graphic novelist recognized. He had asked that the award be presented at the Cannon Beach Book Company and Terry was on hand to make the presentation. Craig spoke to an audience at the library about the history of the book (11 years in the making) and the nature of his work as a graphic novel and comic book artist. HABIBI is a sprawling centuries wide retelling of Christian and Islamic religion, of stories from the Bible and Koran and of the struggle of men and woman through the years.

The award is highly coveted as it is selected by booksellers and others who are directly involved in book selling from the NW. Terry read the book and told those assembled that he read the first time through for story and the second for drawings and content that needed deeper study. Both times, he was deeply impressed.

  1. Glad to see Craig get this. That book is phenomenal. Also cool that Terry was there to hand it out. Makes me happy Terry recognizes good work, no matter the form.
