US Cover: Wards of Faerie

Here is the US cover for Wards of Faerie, Book I in The Dark Legacy of Shannara. It is the story that takes place after High Druid of Shannara. Terry and Del Rey Books will publish Wards of Faerie on August 21, 2012, and it’s two sequels will be published at six month increments thereafter!

What do you think of the cover? It was time for something new and Terry loves it. The coin splitting asunder as serious importance to the story; I can’t wait for you guys to find out!

More news when we have it! Hope you enjoy the cover!

  1. I’m not entirely sure how the coin will play a role in it, but my guess is has to do with magic and techonlogy being at odds with each other and cannot come together as equals as a whole. That’s a really good question though about both; which is better for the world? Technology, which people grasp onto? Or magic, which has done a lot of people good, despite the negative side of it? I can’t wait to see how it all goes down. I’m rooting for magic! 🙂

  2. I like the look of the cover. Great to see this trilogy coming out over the next year an a half.
It will be interesting to see how the coin splitting plays a role in the whole story.
I am highly anticipating the books to see how Terry takes us from Running with the Demon all the way up to the end of the Dark Legacy of Shannara.
    😉

  3. Cover looks great. I too am glad to see completion within a shorter time. I hope such becomes standard fare from now on. Having to wait three years for an admitedly finished story isn’t right. A thicker book – ala stephen king – once every 12 to 18 months would be better.

  4. It looks very neat. I was going to read the series anyway, but calling it “The Dark Legacy of Shannara” makes me want to read it even more. And the coin splitting makes the cover look artistic, not just a depiction of one of the book’s scenes.

  5. The new cover is simple, yet elegant!!
I am curious as to what the spine looks like so I can envision it on my self:)
Should be a fun ride with 6 month installments.
    Nice job Terry!!

I assume this will be available signed from the Signed Page when it publishes?

  6. Love the cover… from the pointing ears, I guess this story will revolve mainly around elves. I am waiting with anxious. Any possibilities on international book give away 😉

  7. I really don’t mean to be a jerk, but at least I’m being honest. I don’t like the cover much because it doesn’t FEEL like a fantasy book. Not to say this is a bad cover, because it’s not. I like the background and concept, but it doesn’t have a special place in my heart like the other covers do.

  8. I am so excited – it looks awesome!!! Here’s to many, many more years filled with Terry Brooks works…. Thank you for sharing this with us!

  9. YOU’RE FANTASY BOOKS ARE GREAT TOTALLY AWESOME I OWN THEM ALL AND HAVE THEM AT LEAST TWICE WITH THAT SAID, THE COVER OF THIS ONE IS NOT A REAL EYE CATCHER AS YOUR OTHERS HAVE BEEN. BUT IF THE CONTENT IS GOOD I GUESS THE COVER REALLY DONT MATTER

  10. Oooo, It looks awesome!!! The heads on the coins appear to be Elven. Can’t wait to see how that plays in with everything! I love It! The suspense is building!!

  11. Yes! Is it going to be available on the e readers too! I just got one and am totally thrilled. So pleased to be able to read your stories again! YeeHa!

  12. I LOVE IT!!!!!!! This is best yet! Way to go! Now It will be even harder to wait for this next series of books. Come quickly August!!!!!!

  13. PLEASE TELL ME I WILL BE ABLE TO GET IT ON MY KINDLE IN AUGUST !!!!!!!!!!! I am always waiting anxiously for Terry’s books to come out.

  14. Excellent cover! Is the elf on the coin Pen and does the splitting of the coin represent the Word vs the Void? I can’t wait to read this new series! Thanks Terry!

  15. I like the cover. I always thought elven and faerie ears look the same. Maybe i am
wrong but they could be faerie on the coins. I am excited, I want to start reading it
now. I don’t read many books, except for Terrys. I have read all of them and loved each one. Even if I did’nt like the cover, I would still read the book because the treasure is what is inside. Terry always gives me a treasure, and there is one awaiting for me in August

  16. I also, unfortunately have to put my hat into the “doesn’t do it for me” side. It’s evokes to much a Roman picture and lacks the “fantasy” and WOW of some of the other books. The High Druid wasn’t my favorite series by a long shot but the cover art was spot on.

Elves versus elves? Omshford versus Omshford, magic versus tech….who knows. Hopefully it’s a grand epic tale with a decent dark kick ass hero. just my $0.02.

  17. I admit that I prefer the cover art that existed throughout the original trilogy, the Heritage quadrillogy and on First King, but that is become I am an anal retentive completist with OCD tendencies who preferrs to have my collections match in their entirety. Its also why I refuse to own any copy of the original trilogy that doesnt fit the size and format of all the rest of Terry’s books on my shelf. I deal with it 🙂 That said, I see the rationale for having each series with its own style of cover art and I can certainly appreciate each style for what it has to offer. Bottom line though is that Im going to buy the book for the quality I know is INSIDE and dont plan to judge the book by its, well…its cover.

  18. I have been reading and thoroughly enjoying ALL of Terry’s works for over 30 years and am absolutely excited and delighted that we are going that have a whole new trilogy in the Shannara saga coming out…..3 books in the span of a year? Rock on Terry!!!!!

  19. I can’t say I like it at all. Unless there is a fold out or a continuation on the back cover that makes sense it really doesn’t convey a fantasy novel to me. Whatever happened to good old fashioned “artwork” or painted covers? I miss those covers of yore. But all that said, I will not shun the book itself I must read it. How can I not read every book put out by Terry?
