Poll: Will You Buy The Garet Jax Short Story On Monday?

paladins-weaponmasterschoiceOn Monday, January 28th, The Weapons Master’s Choice will e-publish!

It is the second of three e-short stories in the Paladins of Shannara e-series. The first was Allanon’s Quest, featuring the Druid Allanon and his efforts in locating the last heir of Shannara.

For The Weapons Master’s Choice, Terry has returned to one of his best characters ever—Garet Jax! To say Garet is a fan favorite is a vast understatement. Terry waited for the right story to come around, it did, and he wrote it. Now we are only a few days away from it publishing to the world!

If you don’t know about it, here is a bit more about The Weapons Master’s Choice:

A city besieged by a powerful warlock seeks salvation from a fabled warrior in the second of three gripping new stand-alone eBook short stories set in the world of the fantasy-fiction phenomenon that is Shannara—by beloved New York Times bestselling author Terry Brooks.

His extraordinary—and deadly—skills have earned Garet Jax renown and infamy as the man called the Weapons Master. Rootless, solitary, and endlessly sought after, he roams the Four Lands, loyal to none but himself . . . and whomever can afford his services as warrior, assassin, and avenger for hire. But Lyriana is unlike any who have come to him before: as beautiful as she is bold, as enigmatic as the distant city she is desperate to save, and possessed of an intangible, irresistible allure that entices even the hardened Garet Jax more than any amount of gold or silver ever could.

But the challenge she comes bearing may give even the celebrated Weapons Master pause. The remote city of Tajarin, Lyriana’s home, is being laid to waste by an immensely powerful and boundlessly evil warlock of the deadliest order. With the populace enslaved and no champion to stand against the invader, Tajarin will soon be wiped from the map—perhaps only the first city to fall. Whatever hope exists rests in the deft hands, lethal blades, and unerring instincts of Garet Jax. With righteous fury in his blood, and feelings he has never before known in his heart, he will face the most dire of enemies, and dare the blackest of fates, for the mysterious woman at his side—whose deepest secrets have yet to be revealed.

Last year, instead of reading from the forthcoming Bloodfire Quest, Terry read from The Weapons Master’s Choice. I got it on video. Terry read from the first 1/5 of the short story or so. Here is that video, which includes the reading and a Q&A session afterward:

The Weapon Master’s Choice is published this coming Monday, January 28th! You can order it HERE using the links on the page. Before you ask, no, it will not be published on paper for many years when enough short stories have been gathered together for a compilation hardcover. For those of you without an e-reader, please read the NOTE at the bottom of THIS page! You can still read it. It just takes you downloading a bit of software to do it.

My poll question today is: Will you buy the Garet Jax short story on Monday?

Would love to hear from you!

  1. Thank you Terry for keeping me hooked. Shanarra was the first fantasy series I bought and I was working overnight at a corner store when I was 18 and I hated when clients came in. I had to put the book down to serve them. 😀

  2. I’ll wait, only because a friend keeps promising me his old Kindle and I’d rather read it on a portable device than on my computer screen.

  3. As a fan of Terry’s works for over 25 years I’m very excited he’s writing back-stories to some of my favorite characters…. As an old fashioned reader, who doesn’t own a “reading device”, I am majorly bummed out that these are stories that I won’t be able to enjoy. Sitting for hours at my computer screen isn’t an option for me… although my chiropractor would be happy. Just wondering why these stories aren’t being published in the traditional sense??? Cost of publication?? Waiting to make a compilation?? Actual physical books becoming a thing of the past?? I hope one day I will be able to “thumb through” them!!!

  4. Hearing Terry pronounce “shannara” on this video makes me realize I’ve been pronouncing it wrong for over 30 years!! Lol.

  5. I think it is a good idea to publish these three shortstories on paper, I would buy the shit out of that.
