With the establishment of this website in 2000, Terry began accepting two questions from each fan per month. On the last day of the month, five questions are randomly drawn. Terry answers these five questions and they are posted monthly for your enjoyment.
Below are the questions selected last month and Terry’s answers! Enjoy!

Dear Readers,
Hope you are surviving this endless winter. Not so bad in the NW, but looks a bit grim elsewhere. I remember those Midwest winters all too well.
Let’s try to put all that aside for a moment with a belated set of answers to Ask Terry:

Anonymous writes: Your books are the best read since J.R. Tolkein and I just can’t get enough. I have read the Shannara books and now I am reading the Kingdom of Landover books. Just love them! I finished reading the last one, The Princess of Landover, and wanted to know when the next sequel to this series is coming out? You left us readers with so many un-answered questions concerning those beloved characters in the Kingdom of Landover. Please advise me. Thank You!
Terry Brooks replies: Warner Brothers is hard at work on a movie adaption of Magic K starring Steve Carell. A second draft is being written by our very competent and creative screenwriter Patrick Ness, so we hope to see some movement there in the next couple of months. As soon as we get the much coveted green light on filming, I will begin work on a sequel to Princess. Please be patient. It will happen.

David Fuller writes: Hi, Terry, I am a long-time fan of your work and consume each book as soon as I can get my hands on it! Thank you for years and years of enjoyment.
I’m writing because, this past year, your books have been a constant source of comfort as I have faced many personal challenges. I’m not going to list them here, but for a lot of the last 6 months, just knowing I was going to be in bed at night, reading about a world I love and characters whom I adore, was what got me through my day. Knowing that each night I could surround myself , albeit briefly, with wonder and adventure and incredible creativity has been a huge factor in my ability to push through and not give up.
You no doubt know that people read your books because they’re fantastic stories; you may not know so much that occasionally, as in my life this year, they become a source of inspiration and strength that help people keep facing up to the challenges in THIS world.
Thank you, because without these books (specifically, the wonderful books in the Dark Legacy of Shannara trilogy and ALL of the Landover series), there are times where I may have just given up. I just wanted to say thank you. I’m incredibly grateful for the strength and inspiration these books have given me, particularly this year. Warm Regards!
Terry Brooks replies: Writers live for letters just like yours, David. Thank you so much for the kind words. I read books to escape and to recharge my batteries and every so often to find a wonderful story. I think as writers we all seek to achieve this. You make me feel as if with you I have.

James Myrick writes: First of all Terry love your work. I could write forever about how much you helped my growth as a writer. Which brings me to my question. I am 26 and just finished serving 8 years in the Army. My dream has always been to publish some books I have been writing in my spare time. I’m going to be enrolling in college soon and was wondering, what classes would benefit a writer most? I have seen very few creative writing programs in the USA, and wonder if I am stuck going to a journalism course. Looking back on your writing career, what helped you grow the most?
Terry Brooks replies: The best education you will get on fiction writing will come from going to some of the really great writing programs that are available around the country. In the NW, we have Surrey Writers Conference, in Surrey, Canada; Pacific NW writer’s conference in Seattle, WA, and Wordcrafters in Eugene, OR. There are many others. Seek a few out, pay the entry feel and attend for a weekend of intensive help with every aspect of writing. Professional writers, editors and agents will be there to help. It will be worth your time.

Anonymous writes: I’m a huge fan of your Magic Kingdom For Sale book series. I actually started out with The Black Unicorn as part of an 8th grade book group project 11 years ago, and I was hooked on it since. Anyway, I’ve heard that there’s been talks of Magic Kingdom For Sale Sold to appear on the silver screen, and that there is a production credit cited on the wiki page as of Nov 12. Just wondering–is the movie still a go?
Terry Brooks replies: The movie is still on. See the answer to question #1 above for more specifics. The studio, Steve Carell, the screenwriter and the production company are all very committed. Not to mention me.

Scott writes: Are there plans for additional omnibus editions beyond High Druid, and for the Landover Series? I love having everything in one hard bound edition in my collection.
Terry Brooks replies: There are plans to publish an omnibus of Word & Void sometime soon and Dark Legacy sometime in the next two years. No specific dates have been set, to my knowledge. We will try to keep you informed.

See you next month! Or, rather, a few days. Have to get caught up!
