Deadline has reported the casting of Ander Elessedil! Here is more information from Deadline:
Aussie actor Aaron Jakubenko has joined the cast of Shannara, MTV’s 10-episode straight-to-series drama based on Terry Brooks’ massive fantasy book series. Written by Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar, Shannara is set in our world, thousands of years after the destruction of our civilization. The story centers on the Shannara family, whose descendants are empowered with ancient magic and whose adventures continuously reshape the future of the world.
Jakubenko, repped by Active Artists Management in Australia and ROAR, will play Ander, Amberle’s (Poppy Drayton) uncle, an Elven Prince with the reputation for being the wild party boy who has yet to find his way in the world. Jakubenko’s TV credits include the long-running Australian drama series Neighbours and Starz’s Spartacus.

Can’t wait for this to become a reality!
Ander? The wild party boy? Really? I’m at a loss for words…
It’s a small change and a necessary one for TV, in my opinion.
I hope it really is necessary. Ander is one of my favorite characters. I’d hate to see his character trajectory messed up because we need to sell the show. Arion is much more the arrogant party boy cliche. That being said I am super excited for this show.
whT is the tv start date of the series
There are no dates to share yet. When we know, you’ll know. 🙂
I love Terry Brooks! Cannot wait to see this. A dream come to life!!!??
Please, please, please don’t mess this up.
I hope MTV doesn’t mess it up… this “wild party boy” thing kind of leaves me cold.
Question is who plays Allanon ?
The “wild party” thing. First, this is from Deadline. Who knows if they are being accurate with the information or if that’s even the direction that the executive producers are going. Second, even if it is, it can work. Ander in the book is bookish and quiet. Not good for TV audiences. Boring characters won’t kill a book but they can kill a show. As long as Ander in the TV show has a similar story arc and progresses to the right spot, then it will work. And if Terry has signed off on it and likes that direction, well, I trust him.
There will be many small changes like this to the show, I suspect. Some things in the book won’t work in the TV medium. So better get used to it. Like Terry says, as long as the TV show captures the spirit of the book, then he’ll be happy. And so far, they are doing that according to him. Cheers.
please please do a good job on this.Shannara is my escape and really dont want mtv screwin it up
Can’t wait. Rereading all the books for the third time!
Im so so excited…I am such a huge fan of Shannara! Read all Terry’s books several times and listened to them on audio book! I CANNOT wait!
I’m getting really excited for the show! I’ve been reading terrys books for a few years and have fallen in love with every character in the series! Really hope this show will live up to expectations or even exceed them!!
Well, party boy doesn’t sound too promising. Hopefully the writers understand that a good portion of Terry’s fans are adults.
The story can survive such a change. Changing Allanon to Allana, and casting Kim Kardashian to play her, would not be survivable.
Well said, Tim.
Way to cater to that MTV crowd.
