Shannara has found its Eretria!
Spanish actress Ivana Baquero is headed to MTV’s adaptation of The Elfstones of Shannara! You might remember Baquero as the principle character in Guillermo del Toro’s masterpiece Pan’s Labyrinth, one of the best fantasy movies ever filmed in my opinion.
She is about to enter the Four Lands though where danger is everywhere in the Westland! I think she’ll be tough and savvy enough to handle it.
Here is the news from The Hollywood Reporter:
Baquero, who gave a stirring performance in Pan’s Labyrinth as a child, has been cast in the fantasy series, The Hollywood Reporter reports HERE.
Baquero will play Eretria, a human described as being from from the wrong side of the tracks. Raised by a group of thieves called Rovers, she has had to use her good looks to survive. After rescuing Wil (Austin Butler) from danger, she stumbles into being part of Amberle’s (Poppy Drayton) journey to save the Four Lands.
Terry is thrilled about this casting. And so am I. Baquero possesses the look, certainly, but I see an inner strength in that photo above that is required of anyone playing Eretria.
Four characters cast! More to come soon!
Stay tuned!

She is stunning! An excellent choice to play the mysterious, deadly, and beautiful Eretria! So far the cast is shaping up very nicely. Very anxious to see who they will cast as Stee Jans, Cephalo, and one of my favorite characters from Elfstones, Crispin the Captain of the Elven Home Guard. Can’t wait to see that epic struggle on the bridge in the PyKon between Crispin and The Reaper!
Amazing choice! This one almost seems to deserve lots of applause in my opinion. The only detail that I think doesn’t fit, would be that her skin is too light. She always looked much more tanned in my imagination, but I don’t know if that actually fits her real appearance in the book. If I am right though, it’s nothing a little makeup can’t fix! 😛
My excitement for this sky-rockets every time someone is cast and it really brightens my day! Also I’m not sure if I want to re-read Elfstones to be able to remember every little detail or not, even though the show is still a ways off… Gah! I can’t wait! 😀
mm mm mmm! Now I can get off my pins and needles. This cast is shaping up nicely. LUV IT
I just still can’t believe a live-action version of one of the Shannara books is happening! Excited!!!
i’m afraid I don’t check the site very often but when I saw some links about casting for Elfstones I got excited. I didn’t know it was getting so close to getting made. i’ll have to stop by more often to make sure I learn when it’ll be broadcast).
I actually just watched Pan’s Labryrinth for the first time recently. the combination of fantasy with a story about Spanish anti-fascism was a nice surprise.

This is bad casting. The Rover girl should look like a young Catherine Zeta-Jones. It has to be played with a measure of sass, sexyiness and darkness. Skin should be darker. The character gradulally evolves over time to a more altruistic person. This actress looks too childlike.
When you watch the show, you’ll see sass, sexiness, and darkness. Don’t you worry.
