  1. I have just received my Satellite/Cable listings magazine for the period January 2nd to January 8th. No channel on Sky will be showing the series during this period. So we now know that, unlike with some other foreign broadcasters, Shannara Chronicles will not be aired in the UK within hours of its US screening!

  2. I just saw the weirdest schedule for Shannara Chronicles from IMDB for MTV, the first 2 episodes (2-parter I believe) is premiering on Jan 5th. HOWEVER, the rest of episodes follow on Jan 30th and onwards! Why? Whats the point of airing 2 episodes and announcing it as premiere of series but then stopping and waiting a whole month!

  3. OK so as excited as I am for this, which is a lot, I’ve been realising that I don’t get MTV. So is there any other way I’ll be able to watch the show? Or will I have to wait until it appears on Hulu or something like that?

      • And quote: “For those of you without cable TV, you will be able to buy season passes to the show on various online platforms. Here are a few: iTunes, Amazon, Vudu. No word on Netflix or Hulu yet.”

Terribly sorry Shawn. I really thought I had read the article over, but, apparently not. /facepalm I’ll try and read more carefully next time, thanks!

  4. my cable provider doesn’t offer mtv, so I’m getting my bro in law (satellite) to dvr it for me. I am cussing my cable company right now! I plan to buy the blue ray of the season when it comes out, so subscribing to vudu or hulu isn’t in the cards, I don’t want to have to pay for it twice!

  5. I am disgusted that there is no UK release date as of yet.. I have every book that has ever been written bought from original when released, yet we have to wait to see the TV show.. Just unacceptable. I have so been looking forward to seeing this.. Why do the UK always have to wait for some stupid licensing reason or red tape…

  6. So it seems as per usual the UK is left out! Why no date for us I’ve been a huge fan since 1980. I’m sure I’m not the only fan in the UK but again we are the last on the list! Just sooo disappointed 😐

    • There is no UK release date because the details for the UK deal have not been finalized. When they are, the details will be posted on this page. There is nothing that Terry or I can do to speed that up unfortunately.

  7. I am very disappointed that there is no UK release date as yet but there is no point taking it out on Shawn or Terry, Shawn is being very helpful by replying to all the posts and keeping us as up to date as he can. We will just have to be patient and hope that we get a release date soon.

  8. There are many authors that have had their book made into TV shows it can easily be found that almost non of them have any control over when and where they are released. Many of these fine writers are lucky to retain any degree of creative control over what goes into the TV show. So from Kathy Riechs (Bones) to George R R Martin (Game of Thrones) to Stan Lee (Spiderman et al) to suggest the Terry is in some way at fault for the lack of release date in any area is just naΓ―ve and definitely ridiculous.
So if someone is that desperate to see the show don’t be so cheap and buy the subscription and enjoy. Otherwise stop whining at Shawn and grow up.

    • and just for information on amazon the SD version of the show is $17.99 which converts to roughly Β£12.21 basically the cost of a few beers!!!

  9. I’ve seen advertisement for it on UK tele but not actually seen any dates there either – I’m going to cry if it’s too long to wait! Thanks for the updates, Shawn πŸ™‚

  10. Shawn, I’m cracking up here! “Please read the post” will haunt my dreams! I love that you have the patience and the willingness to keep responding to all of these questions. Thanks for everything you do for Terry!

BTW, I saw Star Wars this weekend and before it was a preview for Shannara! I was so excited seeing it on the big screen! Can’t wait until… when did you say the US release was? ;>)

  11. Just received by UK tv guide for the week January 9th thru 15th. There is no listing for the start of the series during that week. Shawn has already told us that Sky have the rights in the UK. So we are now in the position that Sky a British owned company will be airing the Shannara Chronicles in Italy (on Sky Atlantic channel) before they air the series on one on their channels in the UK!!!

      • I have “The Walking Dead” seasons 1-5 box set to keep me going until TSC is released, not to mention the last few episodes of True Blood season 7 and a Tad Williams book. My wait will be a most pleasant one indeed!!!

P.S Add Gotham season 2 to my list!

  12. Hello there,
Although Bulgaria is listed and suppossedly airing the show on 6th JAN via BTV, I couldn’t locate in their TV schedule any mention of Shannara — no ads either.
As well any of their affiliated channels mention Shannara πŸ™
The MTV we’ve got in here is the UK one…so we know the drill πŸ™

      • Hey Shaw,

        Thank you for your reply.

Of course I know you posted only what you’ve received–and channels may change their schedules without prior notice.

My message was more of ‘letting you know what’s up in here’, mainly as I believe you guys wish to keep track where the show is being aired.

If it’s of your interest, I can post here in case the show is aired over here–Bulgaria.

Anyway, thank you for your time

  13. Thanks for posting this information, Shawn. I actually have a Goodreads friend in Poland and I sent her the Poland, et al airing information for the Shannara Chronicles. I am so excited this has made it to tv!

  14. I am intending on buying a DVD box set as that seems to be the trend with tv shows these days. I have collected all but the latest season of Got. I was wondering if they are planning on releasing the box sets for The Shannara Chronicles?

  15. Still no news on who and when the series will air in the UK. Got my TV listings magazine for week January 16 – 22, no sign of Shannara Chronicles. So it seems the UK will not be getting the series any time soon. Shawn can you confirm that it has been sold to a UK broadcaster, or are the distributors still in negotiations?
Meanwhile because of this situation fans in the UK are watching the series via Torrents or using VPN’s to watch on MTV US site or other unofficial streams.

    • Channel 5 have announced it as an acquisition on site today. However they they have not given a date for the planned airing of this series it will be a wait and see.

  16. Thanks for that info for the UK – Glad its on terrestial tv so everyone can see. Had a feeling it maybe as I saw something on there – just a little teaser but I thought it may be. Sooooo excited!!
