For many years the only chance a fan had of speaking to Terry was to meet him at tour events or conventions.

With the establishment of this website in 2000, Terry began accepting two questions from each fan per month. On the last day of the month, five questions are randomly drawn. Terry answers these five questions and they are posted monthly for your enjoyment.

Below are the questions selected for October 2015 and Terry’s answers! As you can see, we are a bit behind due to the show. Catching up now. Enjoy!

OCTOBER ASK TERRY QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Greetings Everyone,

Moving on, rapidly now, we shall venture into Ask Terry for October, a particularly good month for confusion, as I remember it looking back. Let’s see how the questioners remember it.

Anonymous writes: I need a new Shannara omnibus to get me through the cold winter months! Is there any chance that there will a forthcoming Dark Legacy of Shannara Omnibus coming out any time soon?

Terry Brooks replies: Not sure about this. Del Rey is knee deep in publishing various tie-ins to The Shannara Chronicles at the moment, and my newest book, The Sorcerer’s Daughter, will come out in late May. But I will ask about this and see in general what they are planning down the road.

Stefanie Brinkman writes: Are you really planning the end of the Shannara books? I know that if that is true, there are millions of fans who will be disappointed to see this great series end.

Terry Brooks replies: First of all, nothing ever ends these days. If I die tomorrow, someone else will just pick up where I left off with the publishers blessings and new books will appear. We all know how that works. Many authors still writing books seem to be channeling them from beyond the grave. Anyway, I don’t intend to stop writing Shannara. I just want to be the one to write the ending. Once that is out of the way, I can go back to the pre-history and to other gaps in the canon to add to the overall story. Do not despair.

Matthew Moore writes: I have wondered for a long time, what did the Druids know of the Knights of the Word, and is the order of the Knights gone forever, or will one day, another be chosen? I know the order failed, but maybe that wasn’t their fault.

Terry Brooks replies: The Knights of the Word died out with Logan Tom in the Genesis series. Mostly, they were in Word & Void. So there were descendants, but they were not of that order and were loners until the time of the First Council of Druids when perhaps some of those descendants went on to become Druids. But the connection is tenuous and not at all clear. The history of the Old World was mostly lost in the Great Wars and that would include the history of the Knights of the Word.

James Royer writes: Do you have any plans to finish, re-submit or re-write the Menion Leah (son?) story.

Terry Brooks replies: No. Interesting experiment for a young writer, but I have cannibalized it sufficiently that there is nothing of value left. Lots of early stories always get left behind as practice, practice, practice. Song of Lorelei is one.

Robert Migchelbrink writes: Just finished The Measure of the Magic. Will there ever be an opportunity for us to find out if Panterra Que made it back to Prue?

Terry Brooks replies: There is a good chance. There needs to be a link between Measure and the books that follow, which means we have to have a tie-in with Panterra and the Orullian brothers, don’t you think? Stay tuned.

So that’s it for October. Look for November soon!

Writing onward,
