In Stores Now: The Shannara Chronicles S1 Blu-ray

“The Shannara Chronicles” Season One Blu-ray is available today!

The 10-episode MTV series premiered in January this year and many of the show’s viewers have been waiting on this Blu-ray. Now that it’s here.

The first season is an adaptation of The Elfstones of Shannara by Terry Brooks, one of the masterpieces of the fantasy genre. In many ways, the bestselling novel proved beyond a doubt that readers wanted more epic fantasy, paving the way for future epic fantasy authors. While the TV show is not a word-for-word adaptation — something even Terry Brooks did not want — it does hit many of the high points from the novel.

The great thing about “The Shannara Chronicles” was its ability to gain Terry Brooks a whole new generation of readers. His book sales — especially on those first three Shannara novels — exponentially grew weekly as the show progressed. For those of you in the gift-giving mood, I think The Elfstones of Shannara coupled with the first season Blu-ray of “The Shannara Chronicles” might make a great one-two gift for that younger fantasy reader and TV watcher in your life!

Season 2 of “The Shannara Chronicles” is being written right now, taking place between Elfstones and the third book in the series, The Wishsong of Shannara. Should be fun entering new territory not mentioned in the books!
