In 1977, Lester del Rey took a chance and published The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks.
We all know how that chance played out by now, I think. The debut book by Brooks would go on to become a New York Times bestseller, a cornerstone of modern epic fantasy. And not only that, but the book would begin one of the longest-running fantasy series of all time, with Brooks writing more than two dozen Shannara novels.
For fans looking to celebrate this year’s 40th anniversary of Terry Brooks’ amazing fantasy Shannara series, ReedPOP and Penguin Random House will have a special gift at this weekend’s Emerald City Comicon. In honor of Brooks’ special appearance at the show, fans will be able to buy an exclusive Shannara Chronicles t-shirt available nowhere else.
The shirt, available for $25, features a listing of all the books featured in the series over the course of four decades. Titled “Terry Brooks Shannara – The Four Lands Tour”, it can be purchased at The ReedPOP Supply Co store on the 4th floor at Emerald City Comicon.
Brooks will partake in a Friday panel, a Saturday Shannara panel, and several Emerald City Comicon signings. Be sure to look at the convention schedule for more details.
The next novel in Shannara, The Black Elfstone, is the first book in The Fall of Shannara series, which begins the chronological end of the entire storyline!
40 years! The magic is strong in the Four Lands.
