The Sword of Shannara Limited Edition Going To Printer
After a lengthy wait due to complications in my own life — loss of my mother, birth of my son, and numerous annoying health issues that culminated with shingles — I can now share that The Sword of Shannara Limited & Lettered Editions will go to the printer tomorrow morning.
I am so pleased with the book. It is a project I’ve wanted to do since I was thirteen years old and I think we’ve managed to put together a beautiful book. And since you all have been so patient, I’ve decided to sweeten the project with a map of the Four Lands — a map by Russ Charpentier that will be folded and inserted into a pocket at the front of the book! That means you can remove the map from the book and follow along with Shea, Flick, and Allanon as they quest to destroy the Warlock Lord.
What does this mean when it comes to the printing schedule. The files are going to the printer tomorrow morning. Thomson-Shore will print page proofs and send them to me at Grim Oak Press. I will go over these, specifically making sure the high-quality paper I chose is good for Marc Simonetti’s interior illustrations. When I approve the proofs, Thomson-Shore will move forward, putting the project into their publishing queue. Their queue is filled with other projects and they usually take between six and eight weeks to print a project.
That means copies should be shipped and arrive to me sometime in July. I will let you know what date Thomson-Shore gives me. The Lettered Edition books will arrive at the same time but the clamshell cases for them will take a bit longer since they are hand-made at a different bindery next door to Thomson-Shore. They shouldn’t take more than a few extra weeks.
It will all be worth it, trust me. I’ve poured my heart into this book. And we are already working on Sometimes the Magic Works, The Elfstones of Shannara, and a super secret unpublished Terry Brooks novel… oops, did I say that?
