January Ask Terry Q&A

Terry Brooks

For many years the only chance a fan had of speaking to Terry was to meet him at tour events or conventions.

With the establishment of this website in 2000, Terry began accepting two questions from each fan per month. On the last day of the month, five questions are randomly drawn. Terry answers these five questions and they are posted monthly for your enjoyment.

Below are the questions selected from January 2019 and Terry’s answers! Enjoy!

JANUARY 2019 ASK TERRY Q&A

Hi again, Everyone,

So now we are safely into 2019 and can coast our way down to the present.  Thus, for January . . .

Frank Clemente writes: I read every book you ever published. Many twice. Will you write a second book on Street Freaks? The first one was fabulous. I want to know what happened to Cay. Thank you for all the wonderful hours of enjoyment you have given me.

Terry Brooks replies: I’m getting a lot of requests for another Street Freaks book, which I haven’t really thought about all that much given it was sort of a secondary effort.  I might have to rethink that view.  I do have a second book in mind, so I will do a little work on story and character and get back to you on this in the Fall.

Jeremiah Jones writes: After the events of Angel Fire East but before Armageddons’ Children, did Nest and the Gypsy Morph have lots of adventures?

Terry Brooks replies:  I suppose, but I don’t know what they were.  Neither has chosen to write to me about it.  Not sure this is something I would care to write about anyway. I sort of thought all along that Word & Void would be three books and out.  I don’t know that I want to change that plan.

Brad Johnson writes: What is the ‘Word’ in the Word & Void series? Is it of Christian roots, or a combination of Christian & magick?

Terry Brooks replies: This seems like one of those instances where I think the individual reader should decide.  There are good reasons to believe either way, and what I think doesn’t much matter.  So I will leave it up to you, Brad, and all the other readers to decide for yourselves how to describe those books.

Robert Morrow writes: Will there be any more Paladins of Shannara short stories?

Terry Brooks replies: There will be a collection of my short fiction published in the Fall of 2020, in hardcover, and you should see a story our two in there that will echo whatever you’ve read so far.  It does include the ebook stories from Shannara, but also a couple of new stories in that series, Word & Void, and Magic Kingdom along with one our two more.  Hope you will enjoy.  Don’t think I will write others any time soon.

Dan Anonymous writes: Since you accurately predicted the Trumpocalypse (which you named the Great Wars and we see demons everywhere right now), at what date do you think I should start setting up my bunker?

Terry Brooks replies: Not sure.  It may already be too late, according to some.  I do see a Brave New Word in the making.

Still testing me, aren’t you?  Well, keep at it.  Just finishing final edits on the new, final book in Shannara – out next June.  So I think I might take a couple of months off to recoup.  Sort of all worn out just at the moment.

Hope your summer has been great,

Ask Terry
