Title Reveal: Child of Light

Hi Brooks Fans,

Earlier this year, when COVID-19 reared its ugly head, Terry and Judine sequestered to their home, knowing it was the safest course of action.

And during those early months of 2020, Terry had a lightning-bolt idea for a new book unrelated to anything he’s written before. He began writing it in March. He called me every two or three days sharing he had finished writing another chapter. Every time he called, he was excited; every time we hung up, I couldn’t believe his pace. It was clear he was feverishly writing and, when that happens like it did with Running with the Demon, the past has shown us it is something truly special.

It is my pleasure to reveal that book’s title is:

Child of Light

We will reveal the overall series title and publication date soon. In the meantime, let me share my opinion on this book. I’ve been an ardent Brooks reader since I was 13 years old. I’ve found great joy in everything he’s written. That said, Child of Light is a magical leap forward at a time when a writer’s career is usually winding down. I’m reading it — about halfway through right now — and it takes all of the greatest qualities from Shannara, Landover, and even Word/Void and melds them into a wondrous fantasy novel that is really special. I dread reading it because I don’t want it to end! I know many of you know that feeling well.

Del Rey Books and Terry will be unveiling more information about Child of Light once we get into 2021. Until then, know that Terry is writing Book 2 — he’s already finished six chapters — which tells me he’s just as excited now as he was back in March!

I hope you are reading something great. And happy holidays!

Your WebDruid,
Shawn

PS: As a reminder, Small Magic publishes in March 2021. It features short stories from Shannara, Landover, and Word/Void — some old, some never before published. You can pre-order it now. It will tide you over until Child of Light publishes later in 2021.
